Originally from North Norfolk I have lived in Weston super Mare since 1976 and have been drawing and painting my whole life. Last August I lost my studio at the Old Town Quarry when it was unexpectedly closed but carried on producing work in a shared studio. My many years of working in a drawing office gave me a love of precision. From cave drawings to the scribbles of small children humans have enjoyed the immediacy of the translation from the eye to the hand which is given by drawing. This is why I love it. My drawings are produced from my own photographs and sketches as I try to portray the beauty and that I see in our natural world. |
Wendy Brown, born in South Wales in 1968, grew up in a family of fishermen and scuba divers, fostering a deep connection to the coast. After a stint in industry, Wendy shifted her focus to art, becoming a nationally renowned tattoo artist in 1998. Over the years, Wendy has created award-winning, realistic body art for thousands of clients while maintaining a passion for traditional art. Now concentrating more on her painting, she has exhibited locally and completed numerous commissions. Wendy offers original oil and acrylic paintings on canvas, as well as prints. Her work was recently exhbited and sold at the Clevedon Art Club exhibition. She teaches adult art classes in Weston-super-Mare. |
Tina Dodd Landscape artist & Tutor BA (Hons) Contemporary Art and Professional Studies Having lived on the Mendip Hills for nearly 30 years, I love to capture the atmosphere of the local Mendip landscape in monochromatic drawings using charcoal or graphite. More recently I have been exploring printmaking techniques, in particular monotypes, as a medium through which I can achieve the changing moods and wonderful contrasts of light and dark. I enjoy entering my work into open submission exhibitions and, amongst others, have most recently had work selected for the Bath Society of Artists 118th Open Exhibition and the Royal Bath & West Show Open where I was awarded second prize for my charcoal drawing ‘In the Pig Pen’. “I would describe myself as a direct painter who likes to respond to a subject in an immediate and expressive manner with the aim of revealing a certain passion or evoking a certain mood.” |
I have been lucky enough to call Glastonbury in Somerset my home for the last twenty years. My inspiration comes easily from the huge variety in the landscape here. Land, trees and coastline particularly. I am always looking at and taking note of the shapes, changing colours, shadows, and tones of the landscape while I am out. Working in my studio these studies can become more dramatic while playing with composition and using saturated colours. |
